Roots

Roots

Roots is a photographic exhibition held in February 2025 in Terrassa, conceived as an exercise in memory after the Dana disaster that occurred on October 29, 2024.

Months after the event, its purpose was to remember and disseminate what happened and at the same time, it sought to offer the residents of Letur in Terrassa a means of reconnecting with the village from afar: with memories, shared pain, and the possibility of rebuilding community.

Exhibition text

Roots, childhood, connection, return, family, love, encounters, friendship, tradition, peñas, migas, vegetable garden, olive trees, water, fire, music, freshness, bells, rosemary, history, retreat, stars, peace… Letur.

The unexpected and unfair have touched at the heart of each of these words that in Letur reveal all their meanings.

On October 29th, the DANA caused serious human and material damage in Letur. It uprooted the vegetation, that of the Leturians and Leturianas, and that of the people who visit it every year. In short, that of everyone.

Here is a personal photograph that confronts the harshness of what happened —elements and residual matter of the DANA— with the ethereal memory of the past, leaving unanswered questions.

In memory of Dolores, Jonathan, Mónica, Antonia, Juan and Manolo.
